GETTING STARTED

Your first trek starts with a good choice.

Your first trek does not have to be your hardest. Choose a route that leaves room to enjoy the landscape, get used to camp life and learn how you feel after several days on foot.

Start with the whole day

Duration alone is not a difficulty rating. Ask about walking hours, daily height gain, terrain, the highest sleeping altitude and the time spent travelling to the trailhead. A short itinerary can still be demanding.

Ask these questions before booking

  • How many hours will we walk each day?
  • What does the route look like in my travel month?
  • Where do we sleep, and what are the toilet arrangements?
  • Which meals, transfers and equipment are included?
  • What happens if weather changes the plan?

Leave room at both ends

Book transport with sensible buffers. Mountain roads and weather can change quickly. A tight return connection can turn the final day into a race.
